Jane Austen

Jane Austen (16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) was an English novelist known primarily for her six major novels, which implicitly interpret, critique, and comment upon the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Her novels are generally set among the middle and upper classes, and are marked by their sharp observation of human nature, their wit, and their social commentary. They have been admired for their language, humor, and insights into the relationships between men and women.

Austen was born in Steventon, Hampshire, England, to George Austen, a clergyman, and his wife, Cassandra. She was the seventh of eight children. Austen lived most of her life in her family's rectory, where she began writing at an early age. Her first novels were published anonymously: Sense and Sensibility (1811) and Pride and Prejudice (1813). Her later novels, Mansfield Park (1814), Emma (1815), Northanger Abbey (1817), and Persuasion (1817), were published under her own name.

Austen's novels are characterized by their exploration of themes such as love, marriage, and social class. They are also notable for their humor, wit, and sharp observations of human nature. Austen's novels have been adapted into numerous films, television series, and stage productions. She is considered one of the greatest English novelists of all time.

Here are some of Jane Austen's most famous quotes:

"There is nothing like going away from home to make you realize how much you love it."

"In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife."

"I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book!"

"Don't expect men to be perfect and then get upset when they're disappointing. That's unfair."
