Lord John Bourchier Berners

Lord John Bourchier Berners

John Bourchier, 1st Baron Berners, wasn't an author in the traditional sense. He was an English nobleman who lived from 1415 to 1474. Here's what we know about him:

  • Family Lineage: He was the fourth son of William Bourchier, 1st Count of Eu, and Anne of Woodstock, Countess of Buckingham. His brothers included Henry Bourchier, 1st Earl of Essex, and William Bourchier, 9th Baron FitzWarin.

  • Military Service and Honors: Knighted in 1426, he was summoned to the House of Lords in 1455, creating the title Baron Berners. He was further honored as a Knight of the Garter in 1459 and served as Constable of Windsor Castle from 1461 until his death.

  • Marriage and Children: He married Margery Berners and had children, though his son predeceased him. His grandson inherited the Barony title.
